Truman grew up in the country in New York State and learned early the value of animals. They had lots of animals; including horses, sheep, chickens, etc. These animals were a necessary part of life in the country. His family also raised dogs (english setters) and showed them internationally.
Today, many years later, Truman still has his animals. He raises and shows dogs (basenjis). He has several cats as well. He has been the past President and Founder of an American Kennel Club Sanctioned all-breed dog club. He has served on the boards of several other speciality and breed dog clubs over the years. He has been active in his community, working closely with the authorities in developing fair animal control ordinances that do not decriminate against responsible animal owners. He has served on committees that have reviewed these laws. In such a position he presented a view point of an animal owner, exhibitor and breeder.
As a dog breeder, Truman is a firm believer of spaying and neutering of all animals that are not being used in a responsible breeding program that developes a better breed acoording to it's approved standard. As such, better that 1/2 of his kennel is altered and only kept as companions. He will not breed a dog unless the litter is pre-sold. All pet quality puppies are sold on a spay - neuter contract and limited registration.
A visitor to this website was so impressed that when she read this page, she deigned a basenji graphic for us. She is a breeder of any other breed of dogs, but she wanted Truman to have it. Thank you, Madeline for the neat basenji graphic
